The first home boys and girls basketball games on Jan. 4 against Lame Deer were a SWEEP!!! All squads won their games, which was a great energizer for the teams and the fans.

Baker boys C Squad defeats Lame Deer

The Boys C Squad was victorious with a final score of 58-47. High point man for the Spartans was Nathan Schallenberger, who finished the evening with 19 points and 17 rebounds. Nathan was followed by Ethan Gundlach, who finished the night with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 23 steals. Bryant O’Connor put in 8 points, accompanied by 6 rebounds and 2 steals. Guy Lesh had 6 points and 8 rebounds, while Jonathan Reetz contributed 4 points. Rounding out the scoring with 2 points each were Rory Lingle (3 steals), Walker Hadley (3 rebounds and 3 steals) and Cayden Craig. Colin Lorbiecke contributed 2 rebounds as well. Jonathan Reetz commented, “Lame Deer had really great defense for the first half, but we were able to contain them the second half.”

Baker boys JV triumps over Lame Deer

The boys JV Squad built off the momentum of the boys C squad and easily defeated Lame Deer 42-26. Logan Graham led the Spartans in scoring with a total of 14 points and 2 rebounds. Jaxson Tronstad was next in scoring, with a total of 12 points, 2 rebounds and 1 steal. Jory Miller and Garrett Lesh tied with 6 points each; Jory also had 1 rebound and 1 steal while Garrett had 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Bryant O’Connor had 4 points and 3 rebounds, while Nathan Schallenberger contributed 3 rebounds and 1 steal to seal the victory over Lame Deer.

Baker Spartans walk away from the Lame Deer Morning Stars in Overtime

Baker Spartans hosted the Lame Deer Morning Stars in their first home game of the season. Despite losing the tip off due to a technicality, the Spartans jumped to an early lead and by the end of the first quarter they lead 12 to 8. By halftime though, Lame Deer retook the lead and the Spartans now trailed by 4. After the half the Spartans came out strong and the two teams continued to battle back and forth. By the end of the third the Lame Deer lead only increased by one. In the fourth the Spartans did what they had to do to come back and in the final seconds, Senior Riley O’Donnell was able to drive past the defense and score a clutch lay-up, sending the game to overtime. The Spartans won the tip and got off to an early lead. The Spartans were able to walk away from the Morning Stars and win the game 54-49.

Seniors Riley O’Donnell and Caleb Ploeger led the Spartans with 17 points each. Both Caleb and Riley had 4 rebounds and Caleb had 1 steal. Senior Jacob Wang scored 8 points and had 6 rebounds. Konner Flint ended the evening with 6 points, 3 rebounds and 3 steals, while Teight Madler contributed 5 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Finishing up the scoring for the Spartans was Jaxson Tronstad with 1 point and 6 rebounds and 1 steal. Trent Collins and Garrett Lesh didn’t score for the Spartans, but Trent did have 1 rebound while Garrett had 2 rebounds.

Baker Ladies C Squad defeats Lame Deer

The C Squad was very determined to put away Lame Deer quickly in their first home match on Jan. 4, finishing the evening with a final score of 48 to 13. The Spartans were led by Makala Gallegos, who scored an impressive 16 points and had 10 rebounds and 3 steals.  Following Makala in points was Kendall Shepherd with 11 pints, 9 rebounds and 1 steal. Teja Dietz added 8 points for the Spartans and had 8 rebounds and 2 steals. Harlee Graham contributed 7 points to the win and had 6 rebounds and 5 steals. Faith Hansen put in 4 points and had 6 rebounds and 4 steals, while Hallie Flint finished the evening with 2 points, 2 rebounds and 2 steals. Eve Uecker and Selena Losing didn’t score for the Spartans, but Eve had 7 rebounds and 5 steals while Selena had 1 rebound.

Baker Ladies JV triumphs over Lame Deer

The Lady JV basketball team had a very decisive victory over Lame Deer, ending the evening with a final score of 62 to 28. Sophia Dulin led the Spartans in scoring with 16 points; she also had 7 rebounds and 5 steals. Harlee Graham was next in scoring with 14 points in total and she also had 10 rebounds and 4 steals. McKenna Griffith pumped in 13 points for the Spartans and also snagged 6 rebounds and had 1 steal. Eve Uecker had a total of 10 points, along with 1 rebound and 2 steals. Alex Williams added 4 points for the Spartans and also had 7 rebounds and 6 steals. Kendall Shepherd put in 3 points, while Ashlyn Lutts added 2 points and had 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Hallie Flint didn’t score, but she did have 1 rebound and 1 steal, while Makala Gallegos had 4 rebounds and 2 steals and Rilee Pettersen finished with 2 rebounds and 2 steals.

Lady Spartans defeat the Lady Morning Stars

On Jan. 4, the Lady Spartans welcomed the Lame Deer Lady Morning Stars to town. After a tough night against the Colstrip Fillies the Lady Spartans were ready to compete and get a win. The Lady Spartans played strong and came out victorious with a score of 42-23. Halle Burdick led with 10 points, followed by Shelby Moore and Emily Shumaker who each had 8 points. Anika Ploeger, Peyton Janeway and Mya Hadley each scored 4, Macee Hadley and Rilee Pettersen scored 2. Anika Ploeger and Halle Burdick led the team in rebounds having 9 each, followed by Mya Hadley with 7. Macee Hadley and Emily Shumaker had 4 rebounds, and Shelby Moore, Peyton Janeway and Rilee Pettersen each had 2. Macee and Mya Hadley each had 2 steals.
