The Baker Spartans took on the Red Lodge Rams on Sept. 18 for the second game of their season.

The boys were eager to get back into action, hoping for better results than last week.

Unfortunately, the Spartans struggled with another defeat, but that didn’t take away from their accomplishments on the field.

The first quarter remained unanswered by the Spartans, but during the second quarter, senior Avery Uecker scored a 13 yard touchdown on a pass from junior Jaxson Tronstad. The PAT was run successfully by Jaxson, bringing the Spartans to 8 points.

The Spartans were matched with a tough defense and were not able to score again until the third quarter, where Avery Uecker scored his second touchdown of the game on a 5 yard run, but the PAT pass was unsuccessful.

“It felt amazing to get the touchdowns. I’ve never felt better. I definitely want to work on securing our defensive line, and I hope that we can strengthen it well. I don’t think I would have been able to get the touchdowns without the team, it takes all of us to accomplish our goals.” reflected Avery when I spoke with him after the game. Jaxson agreed and mentioned that he felt they had a few good runs and passes. Another accomplishment was that junior Colin Lorbiecke had the opportunity to show his skills with the kick-off twice during the night. This is the first time that Colin has been able to kick, and he was very excited to do so.

On offense, the Spartans rushed for 29/129 yards. Avery Uecker was 13/68 and Guy Lesh was 3/62 yards. With receiving yards, Jory Miller was 2/55, Guy Lesh was 2/13, and Avery Uecker was 2/10 yards. Jaxson Tronstad passed 7/23 for 84 yards.

On defense, Guy Lesh had 11 tackles, Avery Uecker had 7, and Bruce Higbee had 7. For fumble recoveries, Guy Lesh had 1, Hawken Custer had 1, and Bryant O’Connor had 1.

The Baker Spartans will travel to Roundup next Friday to play against the Panthers.
