Lady Spartans conquered by the Panthers

On Dec. 12, the Baker Lady Spartans traveled to Roundup for the first game of their 2019-2020 basketball season. The girls put up a tough game against the Panthers, but lost 53-37. “We play well as a team, and we will advance in the coming games,” said senior Shelby Moore.

Halle Burdick scored the most points with a total of 10, along with 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Shelby Moore followed with 9 points and 5 rebounds. Then Macee Hadley with 7 points, 1 rebound and 2 steals. Peyton Janeway scored 4 points and had 5 rebounds. Mya Hadley had 3 points and 4 rebounds. Emily Shumaker followed with 2 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals. Rilee Petersen also scored 2 points, 2 rebounds and 1 steal.

The Baker Girls JV had an impressive first showing against Roundup on Dec. 12. The final score was Baker 27 and Roundup 7.

Rilee Pettersen was high point scorer for the Spartans, with a total of 10 points, 1 rebound and 4 steals. Harlee Graham scored 4 for the Spartans and had 4 rebounds and 1 steal. Eve Uecker had 5 points and 1 rebound, while Sophia Dulin scored 3 points and had 2 rebounds and 3 steals. Alex Williams also scored 3 points and had 1 rebound and 1 steal. Rounding out the scoring for the Spartans was McKenna Griffith with 2 points, 2 rebounds and 1 steal. While they didn’t score, Ashyn Lutts contributed 2 rebounds and Makala Gallegos had one rebound to help guide their team to a victory.

The Spartans lose to the Panthers in a nail biter

On Dec. 12, 2019 the Baker Spartans traveled to Roundup Montana to play the Panthers. The tip off was at 7:30 p.m. with Jacob Wang getting the tip off for the Spartans. After the Spartans got the tip off they brought the ball down and the battle commenced. The battle went back and forth during the first quarter with the Panthers being outdone by 6 points. The score at the end of the first was Baker 13 and Roundup 7. The second period was a little harder for the Spartans to score, they battled hard but were not able to keep the Panthers from scoring and could not make many scores. The score at the end of the half was Baker 18 and Roundup 20.

The second half of the game the Spartans came out and were not as quick to the ball as the Panthers were. The third period resulted in the Spartans scoring 5 and the Panthers scoring 9. The score at the end of the third was Spartans 23 and the Panthers 29. In the final period of the game the Spartans were only able to score 7 points, but the Panthers were able to play hard and tough and were able to finish the game by scoring another 16 points. The final score of the game was the Spartans 30 and the Panthers 45. Jacob Wang and Caleb Ploeger commented, “Though we struggled on the offensive side of the court, our defense was solid and we have our sights set high this season.”

The Baker boys JV

In their first game on Dec. 12, the JV boys basketball team had an impressive showing against Roundup, defeating them with a final score of 39-13.

Konner Flint was the high scorer, with a total of 11 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals. Following close behind him in total points was Garrett Lesh, with 8 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Jaxson Tronstad scored 6 points for the Spartans and had 2 rebounds. Tying for 4 points each were Jory Miller with 2 rebounds; Guy Lesh with 1 rebound, and Bryant O’Connor with 2 rebounds. Nathan Shallenberger scored 2 points for the Spartans and had 2 rebounds. Logan Graham had 2 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 assist.

The C Squad boys team lost out with a final score of 47-39.

High point scorer for the Spartans was Rory Lingle with 13 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals. Nathan Schallengberger pumped in 9 points for the rebounds and had 8 rebounds and 4 steals. Guy Lesh scored 6 points and had 9 rebounds and 3 steals. Tying for 4 points each were Jonathan Reetz and Bryant O’Connor who also had 5 rebounds and 2 steals. Walker Hadley contributed 3 points and had 3 steals, while Owen Stieg had 2 rebounds.
