Cheering on the Spartans

The Baker Lady Spartans basketball teams travelled to Miles City to face the Custer County Cowgirls on Jan. 14. While the C-Squad and JV Squad fell to the Cowgirls, the Varsity was able to come away with an impressive win.

In C-Squad action, the game ended with a score of 37-22 in favor of the Cowgirls. Leading the Spartans in scoring was Makala Gallegos, who ended the evening with 6 points; Makala also pulled in the most rebounds, with a total of 7. Makala had 2 steals. Next in scoring were Kendall Shepherd and Harlee Graham, who had 5 points each for the evening; Kendall had 3 rebounds and 2 steals while Harlee had 3 rebounds and 6 steals. Teja Dietz, Eve Uecker and Faith Hansen each had 2 points; Teja also had 1 rebound; Eve had 6 rebounds and 1 steal; Faith had 2 rebounds and 1 steal. Although they didn’t score, Hallie Flint had 2 rebounds and 2 steals while Selena Losing had one rebound.

The final score for the JV team was 59-28 in favor of the Cowgirls. The Spartans were led by Rilee Pettersen with 9 points; Rilee had 2 rebounds and 1 steal. Ashlyn Lutts finished the game with 6 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals. Putting in 5 points for the Spartans was Harlee Graham, who also had 2 rebounds and 1 steal. Eve Uecker and McKenna Griffith each ended the evening with 3 points; Eve had 4 rebounds and 2 steals while McKenna had 1 rebound and 3 steals. Alex Williams put in 2 points for the Spartans; Alex finished with 2 rebounds and 3 steals. Makala Gallegos, Hallie Flint and Kendall Shepherd did not score, but Makala pulled in 4 rebounds and had 1 steal; Hallie had 3 rebounds; Kendall finished with 2 steals.

The Lady Spartans Varsity triumphed over the Cowgirls, with a final score of 56-48. The Spartans were led in scoring by Peyton Janeway, who ended the contest with 13 points and 3 rebounds. Senior Halle Burdick was next in scoring with 10 points; Halle had 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Rilee Pettersen contributed 7 points to her team’s victory, along with 3 rebounds and 2 steals. Finishing the evening with 6 points each were Macee Hadley and Emily Shumaker; Macee had 3 rebounds and 2 steals while Emily had 4 rebounds and 1 steal. Senior Shelby Moore and sophomore Anika Ploeger tied for points with 5 points each; Shelby contributed 3 rebounds and 3 steals and Anika had 2 rebounds and 4 steals. Junior Mya Hadley completed the scoring for the Spartans with 4 points; Mya had the most rebounds for the Lady Spartans for the evening with an impressive 8 and 1 steal.
