The Treasure State will be sending 18 of its best prep football players just across the state line into North Dakota, according to a release from Dickinson State University.
The DSU Blue Hawks, which is coached by Baker native Pete Stanton, has announced the 2020 recruiting class.
“We feel we have a great group of players that will be joining the Blue Hawk family. Our coaching staff did a tremendous job of building relationships with these young men of high character and ability. We were very pleased to sign some players from a few different geographical areas that we haven’t before. We are excited to get to work with these future Blue Hawks,” stated Stanton.
The school collected ten from North Dakota, but the biggest number of recruits are from Montana. The states of Wyoming and Arizona have five players headed to Dickinson, while Alaska has three on the list. South Dakota and the state of Washington will be sending one prep player to DSU.
The Blue Hawks will be getting two junior college transfers from California.
The recruits will be joining a football program which has won five straight North Star Athletic Association under coach Stanton who was a multi-sport prep standout at Baker before moving joining the Blue Hawk program as a player in the 1980s. While at DSU, Stanton was in a program that went 25-4.
After graduating, the 1987 NAIA all-American coached at Terry High School for nine years, building a 70-20 record. He then coached at Belgrade High School for two years before returning to Dickinson as an assistant coach.
Since being named as the head coach at DSU in December of 2013, Stanton has built a 50-18 record with the Blue Hawks.
