Baker’s track teams placed fifth and sixth in the recent Bowman Booster Invitational April 8.
The boys’ squad placed fifth with 82 points, placing behind Mott-Regent/New England (109.5), Bowman County (99), Shiloh Christian (87.5) and Dawson County (85).
The Spartans finished ahead of Killdeer (67.5), Grant County/Flasher (39), Richardton-Taylor (35), Beach (33.5) and Hettinger-Scranton (27.5) and rounded out the top 10 teams in the 14 team field.
Hunter Bailey, Donnie Steen, Guy Lesh and Jesse Brawley won the 4x100 meters with a time of 48.53 seconds.
Bailey, Steen, Brawley and Riley Williams placed fourth (3:50.57) in the 4x400 relay.
In the triple jump Steen flew 40-7 to claim second, while also placing seventh in the long jump (19-7). Guy Lesh was ninth in the long jump (19-3).
Bailey (26th, 18.18) and Williams (29th, 13.30) were the top Spartans in the 100 meters, followed by Cameron Spencer (45th, 14.40) and Cayden Craig (47th, 14.65).
In the 200 meters, it was Bailey (14th, 26.08), followed by Spencer (32nd, 29.58), Craig (35th, 30.20) and Cooper O’Connor (38th, 30.44).
O’Connor placed 24th in the 400 meters (1:08.23).
Garrett Lesh placed seventh in the shot put (39-2), tenth in the discus (100-3) and eighth in the javelin (121-10).
Quinn Griffith was 12th in the javelin (112-00), 35th in the discus (70-8) and 25th in the shot put (30-2).
Carter Gion placed 36th in the shot put (26-6) and 36th in the discus (66-0).
Bowman County won the invitational with 201 points, followed by Dawson County (110.5), Mott-Regent/New England (80), Shiloh Christian (48) and Bison (40) to finish the top five teams. Baker placed sixth (29), edging Killdeer (28.5) by one-half point and Harding County (28) by one point.
Beach placed ninth with 26 points while Grant County/Flasher was tenth (23).
The Spartans shined the most in the relays, winning the 4x100 meter, 4x200 meter and 4x400 meter events.
It was Emilia Cuppy, Ashlyn Lutts, Peyton Janeway and Saraya Afrank teaming up to win the 4x100 meter relay race in 54.23 seconds by a narrow margin over the squad from Killdeer.
It was Afrank, Cuppy, Lutts and Faith Hansen who grabbed the 4x200 meter win with a time of 1:53.05.
Afrank, Janeway, Lutts and Anika Ploeger picked up the 4x400 meter relay victory with a 4:20.80 time, beating the nearest competitors by twelve seconds.
In the sprints, it was Lutts placing fourth in the 100 meters with a time of 13.79 seconds. Cuppy was eleventh with a time of 14.15 seconds.
In the 200 meters, Cuppy was tenth with a time of 30.73 seconds.
In the field events, it was Emily Shumaker and Peyton Janeway coming up with wins.
Shumaker on the javelin with a 123-01 personal record – 28 feet further than the next thrower. Gabriella Qualley was in a tie for eighth with an 83-8 effort, while Makenna Griffith placed 17th (67-8) and Mallory Varner was 24th (62-1).
Griffith finished 12th in the shot put with a 26-6 effort., while Qualley tied for 17th with a 24-3 effort and Varner tied for 20th with a 23-7 effort.
In the long jump, it was Janeway winning with a 17-6 personal record effort, while Afrank was fourth (16-0) with a personal best. Hansen’s 12-6 effort put the Spartan in 28th place.
Janeway added a second win later, taking the triple jump with a 34-3 mark.
In the discus, Qualley threw a personal best 91-00 to place third, while Griffith was fifth (87-0) and Shumaker tied for seventh (79-04) with a personal record. Varner placed 30th with a personal best 57-6 throw.
