On Oct. 20, the Baker Spartan football team hosted the Wolf Point Wolves for a rescheduled game. With snow on the field and fans bundled in blankets, the boys held their last home game of the 2020 regular season. Although cold, spirits were high as the Spartans scored touchdown after touchdown. The game ended 43-7 in the Spartans’ favor. Highlights from the game included three touchdowns from senior Avery Uecker, one from senior Konner Flint, one from sophomore Guy Lesh, and one from freshman Cooper O’Connor. “It was a real fun game and we were playing pretty rough at the start but then we figured it out and I think the team played really well all together,” said Avery Uecker.
In the first quarter Avery Uecker scored a touchdown off a 46 yard run and also successfully scored the PAT run, giving the Spartans 8 points. In the second quarter, Guy Lesh scored off a 13 yard run and Jaxson Tronstad ran a successful PAT, bringing the Spartans up to 16 points. Avery Uecker scored a touchdown on a 2 yard run and another on an 8 yard run, with both PAT passes unsuccessful. Konnor Flint scored a touchdown off a 24 yard pass from Jaxson Tronstad, and Colin Lorbiecke made a successful PAT kick. This ended the first half of the game at 35 for the Spartans, the Wolves at 0. Neither team scored in the third quarter, but Cooper O’Connor scored off a 12 yard pass from Jesse Brawley, and the PAT was a successful run by Quinn Griffith, finalizing the ending score for the Spartans at 43.
Offensively, for rushing, the team was 35-316 yards. Avery Uecker was 13/126 yards, Guy Lesh was 7/105 yards, and Bruce Higbee was 9/57 yards. On passing the team was 2-5/36 yards. Defensively, with tackles, Avery Uecker had 7 and Guy Lesh had 6. Konner Flint had 1 interception. For fumble recovery, Guy Lesh had 1, Ethan Gundlach had 1, and Hawken Custer had 1.
The Baker Spartans will travel to Colstrip for the last game of the regular season on Friday, Oct. 23.
