Sydney Kirschten, a senior here at Baker High School, attended the FFA State convention this past week with the hopes of gaining a role on the state officer team for this next year. With great excitement, Sydney was chosen as State Parliamentarian, which she will assume for the 2021-2022 year along with seven other officers from around the state.

Sydney has been an active member of FFA for the past four years, but has known and been involved behind the scenes since the 6th grade, as her father was an advisor to the organization. One of Sydney’s favorite memories thus far in FFA was getting the opportunity to go to Indianapolis for the National FFA chorus.

The process for earning this role was extensive, Kirschten stated, “I had to send in an application and three letters of recommendation. At State, we then did five rounds of in person interviews, where I was evaluated against many other hard-working FFA members from around the entire state.” Sydney is the 3rd State Officer to be selected from Baker High School since the Chapter started in 1951. The other two being Dennis Wagner, as 1st Vice President from 1980-1981 and Jessica Kirschten, also as State Parliamentarian from 2006-2007.

Sydney mentioned her duties as State Parliamentarian will be spelled out more clearly soon as they have upcoming officer meetings. She will participate in workshops and school visits all around the state and represent the organization as a good role model and leader, who teaches fairness and equality in all things FFA. The State FFA organization stated that Kirschten and the seven other members all were chosen for showing qualities of passion, strength, selflessness, adaptability, and compassion. This is a wonderful honor for Kirschten and best wishes to her on future endeavors with this organization in the upcoming year!
