Norma Ferrel.tiff

Norma Lucretius Ferrel, 83, went to be with the Lord on Sept. 20, 2020.

Services will be held in the summer of 2021 due to Covid.

Norma was born in Dow, Oklahoma on July 14, 1937 to John Wesley and Christine Lucretia (Pace) Barnes. The family moved to western Washington State when Norma was five years old. She attended school in Algona and Auburn, Washington. Norma worked at FMC as a CNA and later in the purchasing department. Norma enjoyed working in her large vegetable garden, grooming her beloved colts, and attending local brandings and rodeos. She really enjoyed her time in the kitchen with her mother in law, Florence Wiseman, canning and baking and often cooking for groups of hungry hunters. She also loved to dance and she and her husband, Jim, could often be seen on the week end enjoying a western swing band in town. But perhaps her greatest joy was her children. Norma was a natural at mothering. She could make a child feel like the most important person in the world. She had a lot of practice with her five younger sisters and her one older brother and four younger brothers. Norma was our second mother and the family glue that held us together. She was always there for us and the one we turned to for comfort, guidance, and unconditional love. Norma was so proud to be confirmed and baptized in April of 1988 in the American Lutheran Church.

Norma will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 48 years, James C. Ferrel of Baker, Montana and her sisters and brothers, Ruby Powell, Bill (Theresa) Alcayaga, Patricia (George) Sanchez, Mike Alcayaga, Yolonda (Lew) Godin, and by sisters-in-law Sharon Ferrel and Darlene Stieg.

Norma is predeceased by her parents, John Wesley Barnes and Christine Pace Sims, her beloved sons David and Terry Dunham, her brother Clyde Barnes, sister Betty Hronek, brother, Allen Barnes, and sister Brenda Ponticello.

Norma will also be lovingly remembered by her numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and dear friends.
