Montana’s 2020 Teacher of the Year, Linda Rost, of Baker, MT has completed her role representing Montana in the National Teacher of the Year Program.
The year’s long National Program is sponsored by the Council of Chief State School Officers and focuses on enhancing and empowering teachers’ leadership skills and celebrating the extraordinary professional contributions and commitments the teachers have made to teaching and learning.
Each year, a State Teacher of the Year participating in the National Program is awarded the honor of National Teacher of the Year. Linda Rost was one of four finalists in consideration for the National Teacher of the Year. Linda’s contributions, and innovations in science literacy and instruction and her support for the students and families in south eastern Fallon County of Montana is a source of pride and inspiration in the education community and beyond.
“Serving as the 2020 Montana Teacher of the Year has been incredibly rewarding, but also challenging due to COVID. I was able to engage in many efforts to promote education in Montana and across the nation, though most of it was virtual.” Linda Rost said. “I have formed professional connections with many people and the award has opened up many opportunities. I have discovered a new world of educational advocacy with an equity lens and I am so excited for the work to be done.”
“Montana takes pride in leading the way in teaching and learning and I take pride in what Linda Rost has contributed to the teaching profession, science learning, and support for the teaching profession.” State Superintendent of Instruction Elsie Arntzen said. “I want to thank Linda for representing Montana at the state and national levels and for her commitment to raising the voice of teachers by spotlighting Montana’s excellence in teaching and learning. Linda contributed to Montana’s understanding on the resiliency and methods, which were needed on how to safely teach and learn through COVID, and her voice informed state policy.”
In 2018 The Office of Public Instruction began administering the Teacher of the Year program. This year’s nomination process is already open and nomination forms are due by May 14, 2021. The mission of the Montana Teacher of the Year Program is to elevate student success by empowering classroom innovation and enhancing pathways to teacher leadership. Once again, we thank Linda Rost for her service and commitment to the achievement of Montana’s student and the well-being of students, and the OPI encourages you to nominate one of Montana’s best teachers for the honor of Teacher of the Year, 2022.
