Carla Rustad lives north of Baker near Ollie. She is married to Keith and has four children and two stepdaughters, along with many wonderful grandkids and great-grandkids.
Carla has been painting with water colors for about 17 years. She has taken a few classes over the years, but mostly is self taught. She likes how you can not predict what the water is going to do, and half the time, it’s a “Happy Accident”.
Carla paints with a group of artists who meet at Lawler’s in Baker on Thursday mornings where it is open for anyone to come do your own painting and support, laugh, have a coffee, soup and have fun together.
She has exhibited her art work at the Fallon County Fair for a few years, and three years at the Badlands Art Association.
In this year’s Badlands Art Association show there were a total of 51 artists exhibiting. Carla’s watercolor picture “Forgotten” was Mixed Media Watercolor because she also used pencil. Carla and Keith returned on Sunday to pick up her painting and look at the rest of the show. After viewing all the other exhibits, she saw hers and was shocked to see that it had the large burgundy ribbon titled “Best of Show” and “First Place” in the Amateur Division.
