On Nov. 2, the Baker Spartans arrived in Eureka after a long two day trip across the state to face the undefeated Eureka Lions for the first round of the playoffs. Kickoff was at 1 o’clock and the Spartans were back to receive. They got a good return and scored right away after just two plays on a 66 yard run by Dillon Hickey. Riley O’Donnell ran into the endzone for the PAT to put the Spartans ahead 8-0. The Lions answered by scoring early in their drive as well to make the score 8-6 Spartans. Eureka scored again putting them ahead 14-8. They kicked off and Guy Lesh returned the kick 77 yards for a touchdown. With Riley O’Donnell getting another PAT the score was 16-14 and the Spartans were ahead. As the first quarter progressed the Lions scored a total of 35 points to the Spartans 16.
In the second quarter, the Spartans were able to slow the Lions down but still allowed 23 points to Baker’s 8.
At halftime, the Lions led 58-24. In the third quarter the Spartans slowed the Lions down substantially only allowing 7 points but couldn’t manage to score themselves. Both teams were held scoreless in the fourth quarter. The final score was the Baker Spartans 24 the Eureka Lions 65.
Dillon Hickey, Guy Lesh, Konner Flint and Riley O’Donnell each had 6 points. Garrett Lesh led the team in tackles with 8 and Riley O’Donnell was close behind with 6. Avery Uecker and Kyler Afrank each had 5 tackles. Dillon Hickey had 9 carries for 87 yards. Riley O’Donnell had 16 carries for 74 yards. Avery Uecker had 5 carries for 11 yards. Garrett Lesh had 1 carry for 8 yards.
