The Dickinson State University men and women’s team competed well at the 2019 NAIA National Track and Field Championships Meet in Gulf Shores, AL.
Cleet Wrzesinski competed in the men’s decathlon which is ten events over the stretch of two days. On the first day, Cleet was in 2nd place after two events with 1,659 points. Cleet had competed in the long jump where he placed 1st and 100m dash where he placed third. Next was the shot put and high jump. In the shot put, Cleet threw a distance of 10.70m which was enough to remain in 2nd place with 2,187 points. In the men’s high jump, Cleet jumped a height of 1.93m and increased his points to 2,927. Going into the final event for day 1 of the decathlon, Cleet was only 12 points behind the leader. Cleet ended the first day with 3,742 points and in 2nd place.
On day two of the men’s decathlon, Cleet Wrzesinski started the day off strong in the men’s 110m high hurdles. Wrzesinski ran a time of 14.69 and accumulated 4,629 points. In the discus throw, Cleet held on to his 2nd place ranking placing with 5,072 points. In the men’s pole vault, Cleet vaulted a height of 4.00m, but continued to remain in 2nd place. After the javelin throw, Wrzesinski was bested out of 2nd place and dropped down to 3rd place overall with 6,201 points. Cleet ended up finishing 3rd overall in the men’s decathlon and earning himself the title of All-American. Cleet Wrzesinski ended the event with 6,888 points which makes him DSU’s 2nd to all-time leading scorer in the history of the Blue Hawk program. The all-time leading points scorer in the men’s decathlon is Ben Knight.
Cleet is a 2017 Baker High School graduate.
