Track meet number two for the Baker Spartan crew

This last Saturday, April 6, the Baker Spartan track team traveled to Glendive for the Wibaux Invitational Meet. The day started out brisk, but was soon sunny and bright by the end of the meet. Starting at 11 a.m., the meet began with the 3200 races. For the Spartans, Caleb Ploeger kept his pace placing sixth in the boys 3200.

Following this, the 100 and 110 meter hurdles races were run. For the girls, Wrenzi Wrzesinski placed first, Sean Shelhamer took third for the boys. Next the 100 meter dashes were competed in. Katie Wang gained points for the Baker Girls track team placing sixth in that event. The following event was the 800 meter run. In this race, Ashlyn Lutts placed second, with Macee Hadley placing fourth.

Due to being behind in events, the scheduled break for the meet around 1 p.m. was canceled and the events continued on. In the 4 X 100 relays, the girls’ team consisting of Wrenzi Wrzesinski, Katie Wang, Emilia Cuppy, and Ashlyn Lutts took a solid first place, and the boys’ team of Sean Shelhamer, Colter Peterson, Riley O’Donnell, and Jayden Allen took third.

For the 300m hurdles, Sean Shelhamer battled the competition, coming in third. In the following 400 races, Peyton Janeway took fifth place, and Jayden Allen took third. Back to the distance events, Anika Ploeger did great placing second in the 1600 meter run. In the 200 dash, Wrenzi Wrzesinski once again took first place.

The final event of the day was the 4 X 400 meter relay. Despite having gone through a long day for a track meet, the girls’ team of Macee Hadley, Emilia Cuppy, Emily Shumaker, and Ashlyn Lutts took third place, and the boys’ team of Sean Shelhamer, Caleb Ploeger, and Donnie Steen took fifth.

Also held throughout the day were the field events. Placers for these events include Wrenzi Wrzesinski leaping to first place in the long jump, Colter Peterson bounding to 4th, and Donnie Steen jumping to sixth in long jump. Donnie Steen also placed fifth in the triple jump at the meet. For javelin, Riley O’Donnell threw well, finishing in  fifth place in that event.

Trevor Lingley vaulted well in the pole vault and claimed third place. Finally, Jayden Allen earned third and Sean Shelhamer earned sixth in the high jump. Points for the meet led the Baker Girls Track Team to take first place with 69 total points as a team. The Baker Boys Track Team took sixth place with a total of 45.5 points as a team.
