This year’s fifth grade Lady Spartans travel basketball team started their year in Dickinson, N.D. on Nov. 10 & 11 for the Fall Dickinson Optimist Tournament and finished with a 2&2 record. With two losses these girls knew that this year’s competition was going to be a little tougher, so they got to work and practiced whenever they could. On December 29 and 30 they traveled to Spearfish, S.D. for the Meyer Dana Orthodontics New Year’s Classic hosted by Black Hills State University and end up victorious with five wins and zero losses. They could feel their hard work was paying off and decided to then enter in the Loren Larson Memorial Shoot-out in Gillette, Wyo. on January 26-27. The girls finished with a first place win and 4-0 once again.
As we moved into March Madness, for these girls it meant five weeks straight of tournaments. First they traveled to Glendive, Mont. for the Makoshika Tournament and had a very successful weekend with a first place win and 4-0 record. Next up was the Miles City Cowtown Classic March 16 and 17 where they once again pulled together as a team and finished with a first place win and a 4-0 record. In hopes to keep their streak alive they then traveled to Spearfish, S.D. for the Whites Queen City Classic. They unfortunately were missing a few girls due to illness but still worked hard and pulled off a second place finish with a 3-1 record. Next up was the Baker Jam on March 30 where they successfully finished with a first place win and a 3-0 record. To end the season the Lady Spartans took another first place win at the Dickinson Spring Optimist Tournament April 6 and 7 with yet another 4-0 record.
