In the fall, the City of Baker was discussing curbside garbage pickup as opposed to the dumpsters in the alley that Baker currently has.
If this option had been pursued, the city would have provided residents with a ninety-gallon garbage can on wheels that they would bring out to the road. A large reason for this idea was that the alleys are not made for commercial use. Although the alley ways have recently been redone to be blacktop instead of scoria, the consistent use of commercial vehicles on them could cause damage over time that could lead to costly repairs.
In December, the City of Baker decided not to change anything with the garbage pickup and to leave it as is, however, there are ninety-gallon garbage cans available. If somebody would like one, they can contact the city or the Department of Public Works and they will accommodate.
