Baker AAU wrestler places third at AAU National Wrestling Tournament

By Mckenzie Davis

Three young wrestlers recently had the opportunity to compete at the AAU National Wrestling Tournament held in Omaha, Neb. Tarin DeGrand won third place overall, quite an amazing performance for this young wrestler. Tarin, Jesse Brawley and Riley Davis all travelled with Polly and Chuck Davis, McKenzie Davis on the Sidney team bus while Kathy DeGrand met the team in Omaha.

While each of them enjoyed the chance to participate in a national tournament, all came home with a new appreciation and lessons learned. Riley said that his favorite part was the grand entry and the fact that when you have two losses you’re out of competition was different. Riley did say that if he could do it over again, he would change some components of his wrestling style. Jesse and Tarin both said that their favorite part was just meeting new people, and Tarin commented that there wasn’t one thing he would change about his experience. Jesse stated that if he had it to do all over again, he’s confident that he would be better on top. All three agreed that it was a fantastic opportunity and one that has made a lasting impression on them and encouraged them to keep wrestling and improving.
