Lady Spartan travel to Wolf Point

On Jan. 4, the Lady Spartans traveled to Wolf Point to contest the Lady Wolves. The Lady Spartans lost the tip and trailed the Wolves ending the first half 28-13. The impressive Lady Wolves stayed strong, finishing the game with a score of 65-28.The Lady Spartans played one of their better games, but fell to an excellent Lady Wolves team.
Shelby Moore, Andie Batchelor, Mya Hadley and freshman Mckenna Griffith led the team with 6 points each, followed by Halle Burdick with 3 points and Sady Harbaugh with 1. Mya Hadley led the team with 5 rebounds, followed by Halle Burdick with 4. Halle Burdick had 3 steals, followed by Shelby Moore and Alex Williams with 2. Shelby Moore, a determined, talented, and tenacious junior, commented, “Although it’s not reflected in the final score, this was one of our best games in terms of working as a team and hustling.”
JV girls basketball
Baker JV girls had a tough weekend as they faced both Wolf Point and Forsyth. The ladies fell to Wolf Point on Friday with a final score of 25 to 32; Saturday night against the Forsyth Dogies the final score was Baker 21 and the Dogies 29. Sophia Dulin brought home high point honors on Saturday with a total of 5 points, followed by McKenna Griffith and Hope Craft with 4 points each, Rilee Pettersen with 3 points. Ashlyn Lutts, Alissa Bohle, Alex Williams, and Emily Shumaker each contributed 2 points, and Camryn Collins finished with 1 point. Sophia Dulin led the Spartans in rebounds with a total of 4 for the evening.
Baker boys basketball falls to Wolf Point

January 4, the Baker Spartan basketball team traveled to Wolf Point to face the Wolf Point Wolves. The Wolves came out quickly and grabbed the lead, with the first quarter ending with the score 14-2. The Spartans struggled to come back through the second quarter and the first half ended with the Wolves still leading at 35-10.
After the halftime break, The Spartans came out scoring more points in the 3rd quarter than in the entire previous half, but still ended the third quarter down 60-25. The fourth quarter saw the Spartans come out in a valiant effort to defeat the Wolves, but they were unable to overcome the lead Wolf Point had established; the game ended with Wolf Point at 71 points and Baker at 49.
Stats for the game were Riley O’Donnell with 5 points, 1 block and 4 rebounds. Caleb Ploeger had 7 points, 3 assists, 5 rebounds and 1 steal. Colter Peterson had 18 points and 1 rebound. Konner Flint had 3 points, 2 assists and 2 rebounds. Jayden Allen had 7 points, 1 assist and 3 rebounds. Riley Schultz had 2 points and 3 rebounds. Teight Madler had 4 points and 2 rebounds. Sean Shelhamer had 3 points and 1 rebound. Jacob Wang had 1 rebound.
Colter Peterson commented, “They are a tough, fast paced team and we can learn from the mistakes we made to better ourselves. I’m looking forward to competing against this team again later in the season. Our team worked hard and did all that we could to pull together for the win.”
JV boys basketball vs Wolf Point
The JV boys’ squad put up a valiant effort against Wolf Point, although in the end they did fall short, with a final score of 32-55. Trent Collins led the JV with a total of 8 points, followed by Logan Graham with 6, Konner Flint with 6, Jaxson Tronstad with 4, Jacob Wang with 4, Dillon Hickey with 3 and Aiden Rabbitt with 1 point. Jacob Wang had 10 rebounds for the Spartans, followed by Trent Collins with 7, and Konner Flint with 3.
C Squad boys basketball vs Wolf Point
The boys C Squad had an impressive game with Wolf Point and emerged victorious, with a final score of 33-14. Jaxson Tronstad was the high point scorer with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Jory Miller had 10 points and 5 rebounds while Aiden Rabbitt finished the evening with 5 points and 8 rebounds. Logan Graham contributed 2 points and 4 rebounds.
Baker Spartans defeat the Forsyth Dogies

On the first Saturday of the New Year, the Baker Spartans hosted a double-header against the Forsyth Dogies. The boys’ game was scheduled to start at 5:30 but due to long and close JV games, it started a little behind time. The game started slow with neither team scoring for a few possessions, but finally Forsyth hit the first 3 to take the lead. By the end of the quarter the Dogies led 11 to 6. In the second quarter the Spartans ramped up the intensity. They came out in an aggressive zone defense and forced many turnovers. By the end of the half the Spartans led 22 – 17.
In the second half the Spartans kept the intensity high and outscored Forsyth in the 3rd 14-5 bringing their lead to 36-22. In the final quarter the Dogies went on a run, but the Spartans managed to end it quickly and won the quarter 13-10 and won the game 49-32. Sean Shelhamer led the Spartans with 16 points, 1 block, 11 boards and 1 steal. Caleb Ploeger followed with 12 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds and 1 steal. Riley O’Donnell had 4 points, 1 assist and 6 rebounds. Colter Peterson led in steals with 2 and had 5 points, 1 assist and 1 rebound. Konner Flint had 2 assists, 1 block and 1 rebound. Jayden Allen had 2 points, 2 rebounds and 1 steal. Riley Schultz had 4 points, 1 assist and 6 rebounds. Teight Madler had 4 points and 5 rebounds and Jacob Wang had 2 points, 1 assist and 1 rebound. Senior Sean Shelhamer commented, “Saturday night I had the privilege of playing with the boys. And I was very happy with how we played as team and I hope we can continue to grow as a team for future success.”
Boys JV vs Forsyth
Baker boys JV impressed the fans and their fellow players with a high scoring game against the Forsyth Dogies; the Spartans finished the evening with a score of 50-25.
Jacob Wang led the Spartans in rebounds with a total of 7 and was second highest scorer with a total of 10 points. Garrett Lesh was the high point man scoring 10 points and pulling down 4 rebounds. Jaxson Tronstad contributed 9 points and 5 rebounds, followed by Logan Graham with 6 points, Konner Flint with 4 points and Trent Collins with 4 points and 2 rebounds.
