Americanism Program fast approaching

By Shannon Johnson

The Americanism Program, sponsored by the Matthew Gappa Council of the Knights of Columbus, will take place at the Longfellow Gymnasium on Tuesday, Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. The theme for this year’s program is “I Am Thankful to be an American”.

This year’s program will include the presentation of the flags by the American Legion and Auxiliary and both the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. Steve Zachmann, the Post State Deputy and current local member of the Matthew Gappa Council of Knights of Columbus in Baker, will be speaking.

This patriotic night wouldn’t be complete without musical presentations as well. The O’Fallon Community Choir, Baker High School, and Plevna High School Choirs will perform an 18 minute Patriotic Presentation – “His Truth is Marching On” arranged by Camp Kirkland under the direction of Debbi Jo Varner and accompanied by Becki Wagnon. The Baker High School Band will also perform.

Stick around after the program to have some refreshments spend some time with your neighbors, the people that help make our great nation what it is.
