Mrs. Spencer recently won Continental Resources – Funding the Future Grant for $5,000. There were over 200 applications this year, and they awarded 47 grants. Continental is passionate about investing in education, programs, and events that enhance the lives of their employees, their families and neighbors in the communities in which they work and live. The purpose of this grant is to help enhance the reading, science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs in schools as they open doors to plant the seed for new programs. Their ability to give back to education in our communities relies on the oil prices, so when funds are available, they are excited to invest in their communities education programs. Continental Resources is a top ten independent oil producer in the U.S. Lower 48 and a leader in America’s Energy Renaissance. With a focus on the exploration and production of oil, Continental has unlocked the technology and resources vital to American energy independence and our nation’s leadership in the new world oil market.
Based in Oklahoma, Mr. Jay Marks from the Corporate Continental Resource Office flew in Dec. 13 to deliver the grant money. Karmen Bagley presented Mrs. Spencer with her grant and certificate. Mrs. Spencer’s vision or goal is to buy 5-6 tablets per classroom for reading, novel studies, etc. This way, teachers would be able to use gift cards to purchase books on tablets instead of purchasing new books or having to purchase many separate paperback copies. She hopes that this would help cut down on expenses for books while allowing students to enjoy newer, more recent reading options. Thank you to Continental Resources for funding this grant and congratulations to Mrs. Spencer! Happy Reading!
