Lady Spartans kick off basketball season

On Dec. 7, the Lady Spartans welcomed the Glasgow Scotties for the start of the Lady Spartans’ regular season. The Lady Spartans were very excited about the opening games for the 2018-19 season. The game started off with senior Andrea Batchelor winning the tip. It was all fast paced from there. Although they battled fiercely, the Lady Spartans were down at half- 18-30. They came back strong after halftime but couldn’t quite close the gap, with the final score 46-30. Halle Burdick led the team in points with 8, Andrea Batchelor followed with 6, and Shelby Moore was close behind with 4. Mya Hadley, Sophia Dulin, and Sady Harbaugh had three points each and Alissa Bohle, Anika Ploeger, and Hope Craft each had two. Halle Burdick and Andrea Batchelor led the team in rebounds with 4 each. Mya Hadley was next with two rebounds.

On Dec. 8, the Lady Spartans traveled to Roundup to challenge the Lady Panthers. The Lady Spartans lost the tip, but rallied back and finished the first half trailing 23-20. The Panthers came out strong in the third quarter and outscored the Spartans 17-4. The Spartans tried to rally back, but fell to the Panthers 57-26. The game was very rough and the Spartans ran into a bit of foul trouble in the end of the third quarter. Halle Burdick and Shelby Moore led the team with 8 points each. Anika Ploeger had five, and Alissa Bohle and Sady Harbaugh each had 2. Rilee Peterson had 1. Sady Harbaugh and Halle Burdick led the team with five rebounds, followed by Shelby Moore with 4 and Hope Craft with 3. The Lady Spartans finished the weekend 0-2, and will play Ekalaka Dec. 11.
