Montana Region 7 Leadership Conference

Baker High School’s Business Professionals of America chapter again hosted the Montana Region 7 Leadership Conference. After weeks of preparation from the organization’s members and advisors, Scott Anderson and Lynn Beach, the event began early on Monday, Dec. 3. At 6 a.m. the breakfast committee was busy preparing for the incoming competitors. When the schools, Miles City, Powder River County, Colstrip, Custer, Plevna and Hardin, arrived, homemade French toast and fruit salad awaited them. Following this, the Opening Ceremonies began, led by Baker High School’s chapter President Trevor Lingle.

Then the group of over 130 students transitioned to competition. Students tested, presented and displayed their professional skills. These events were judged and scored by community volunteers and BPA advisors. Baker students participated in a wide range of competitions and many placed well enough to attend the state conference this spring. To be a qualifier one had to be in the top two places for team events, the top three for judged events and the top seven for tests.

The preliminary results for Baker Students were: Maleah Graham took first in Advanced Accounting, Payroll Accounting, Banking & Finance, second in Administrative Support Team. Alissa Schell first in Spreadsheet Applications, first in Database Applications, first in Administrative Support Team, fifth in Computer Programming Concepts,. Will Rost first in Info. Tech. Concepts, first in PC Servicing & Troubleshooting, first in Network Design Team. Jalynn Hanes first in Fundamentals of Web Design, third in Database Applications. Lilly Hanson second in Medical Office Procedures. Trinity Dietz, first in Computer Modeling, third in Graphic Design Promotion, third in Administrative Support Concepts. Jayden Allen first in C++ Programming, first in Computer Programming Concepts, first in Network Design Team, second in Fundamentals of Web Design, third in Info. Tech. Concepts. Caleb Ploeger first in Network Design Team, fourth in Computer Programming Concepts, sixth in Info. Tech. Concepts. Trevor Lingle first in Network Design Team, second in Computer Modeling, third in Computer Programming Concepts, Second in Info. Tech. Concepts. Jory Miller third in Computer Modeling. Terrell Koenig first in Parli Pro Concepts. In conclusion, the day of events was a success. The Baker BPA President, Trevor Lingle, said about the event, “Overall it went really well.” All BPA qualifiers look forward to the State Conference this upcoming spring.
