Randall Keith Pool was born Aug. 12, 1949 in Vernon, Texas, to Paul and Juanita (Hall) Pool. Growing up Randy attended various grade schools. His family moved to Baker, where Randy attended high school. While going to school in Baker he developed a love for baseball and became a pitcher and had been recruited by professional scouts. He instead felt he wanted to join the Marine Corps. Together with Chauncey Robinson, his best friend, they enlisted in the Marines through the buddy system. Randy served in the Vietnam War. He was in Recon and served from 1968 through 1969 and during that time he received many decorations and metals. Among the medals he received included a Silver Star, Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. After being wounded he spent time in the hospital in Guam. During that time he was one of the soldiers selected to guard President Nixon. Upon being honorably discharged from the Marines, Randy returned to Baker and began working in the oilfield. While living in Baker he met the love of his life, Debra Lynn Atkinson. On Nov. 24, 1970, they were united in marriage in Rapid City, S.D. To this union three children were born; Ryan, Ricky and Brandi. Randy began his career in welding and worked as a professional welder for 40 years until he semi-retired. He recently went back to work for Loenbro as a welding foreman.
Randy loved his grandchildren with all his heart. He truly enjoyed following them in their activities. Randy always had his faithful friend “Bear” with him in his truck
