The Montana Department of Agriculture currently offers a pesticide container recycling program (PCRP). Recycling technician Ron Ahlgren was in Baker July 3 and will be returning every six weeks. The entire operation is mobile and travels to various locations across the state via truck and goose-neck trailer.
The PCRP truck will accept only number two density polyethylene (HDPE) pesticide container plastic that is emptied, rinsed, and properly prepared. The containers (most commonly 30 or 55 gallon blue barrels) are then ground into flakes and shipped to recycling facilities where they are made into landscape edging, speed bumps, fence posts, parking stops or decorative fencing.
