Funeral service for Jean “Jeannie” Padden, 75, of Camp Crook, S.D., formerly of Bowman, N.D., was held Oct. 26, 2012 at the Camp Crook Area Community Center in Camp Crook, S.D. Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery at Camp Crook.

Jeannie passed away Oct. 22, 2012 at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, S.D.

Jean Kathleen Padden was born Mar. 19, 1937, a daughter of Neil Sr. and Jeannie (Anderson) O’Connor in Yakima, Wash. At the age of three, Jeannie (as she was known) moved with her parents to a farm east of Medicine Rocks north of Ekalaka, Mont. She attended Medicine Rocks country school and Carter County High School in Ekalaka where she graduated in 1956.

Following high school, Jeannie met and married Clarence Dingfelder. To this union eleven children were born: Donna, Vivian, Bill, Diane, Mike, Ron, Neil, Irene, Fred, George and Karen. Jeannie and Clarence would eventually divorce. Jeannie and her family lived northeast of Bowman where she raised her children. Besides taking care of the family, she milked cows and sold the milk and cream. In 1977, Jeannie and her children moved to Ekalaka. Jeannie met Joseph “Joby” Padden and the two were married May 24, 1979 in Camp Crook, S.D. Jeannie and Joby made their home on the Padden Ranch west of Camp Crook on Tie Creek. Jeannie made the ranch her home until May of this year when she moved into Camp Crook.

Besides raising her children, Jeannie found time to enjoy gardening and raising chickens, guinea hens and peacocks. Lambing time was the favorite time of year as she enjoyed feeding the bum lambs. In her community, Jeannie was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary and VFW Auxiliary, a member of the Red Hat Society and a member of the Diligent Doers Homemakers Club.

Jeannie is survived by her children: Vivian (Tim) Pendergrass, Bill Dingfelder, Diane (Bill) Wear, Mike Pacetti, Ron (Nancy) Dingfelder, Neil (Kristi) Dingfelder, Irene (CJ) Jacobs, Fred (Michelle) Dingfelder, George (Steph) Dingfelder, and Karen (Craig) Cheguis; two brothers, Neil (Sheila) O’Connor and Mike (Brenda) O’Connor; special friend, Marion Kerr; her caretaker, Kathy Wood; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Neil and Jeannie O’Connor; her husband, Jody Padden; her daughter, Donna Dingfelder; and her little brother, Walter “Andy” O’Connor.
