The O’Fallon Community Choir presented their 38th annual Christmas Concert on Sunday, Dec. 4 at the First Baptist Church in Baker.

Choir director Debbi Jo Varner, presents Allen Wang with a plaque to honor the late Ruth Wang’s 37 year service to the Community Choir.

Christmas in Song was dedicated to Ruth Wang, who accompanied the choir on the piano for 37 years. The Wang family was present as Debbi Jo Varner, choir director, presented Ruth’s husband, Allan a commemorative plaque honoring her many years of dedication to the success of the  Community Choir. Ruth, a long time Baker resident, passed away on Mother’s Day, May 8, of this year.

This annual holiday concert took place in a festive and beautifully decorated sanctuary. A large crowd of local residents gathered to enjoy a variety of Christ centered Christmas music which was accompanied by Melissa Rost on the piano and Leslie Bohle on the oboe.

Among the selections performed by the choir were “Angels Watching Over the Baby” by Boyd Bacon; “Come, Emmanuel” by Nancy Price and Don Besig and the beautiful “Fanfare and Processional for Christmas” arranged by Mac Huff.

After the program an array of delicious holiday treats were served by the ladies of First Baptist Church.

Leslie Bohle accompanies the choir singing “Carol of the Newborn King” on her oboe.

Dedicated choir members who worked very hard this year to give this gift of music to the community are: Traci Bruha, Elsie Efta, Tim Efta, Lisa Espeland, Isabelle Jacobsen, Raenette Kendall, Tom Kendall, Rebecca LaCroix, Wayne Mangold, Harold Miller, Don Nygaard, Lorena Qualley, Brian Rustad, Carla Rustad, Keith Rustad, Jerry Schell, Brenda Schweigert, Dale Schweigert, Rolf Tunby, Dianne Waterland, Duane Waterland, Debbie Veroye, Karol Zachmann,  Steve Zachmann  and music director Debbi Jo Varner.

In addition to presenting “Christmas in Song “to the community, the choir also performed at Fallon Medical Complex Long Term Care and Superior Care Villa earlier in the week.
