The Baker Schools Elementary Christmas/Holiday Concerts will both be on Dec. 14, 2016 at the Longfellow Gymnasium. The Kindergarten-2nd Grade concert is at 10 a.m. The 3rd-6th Grade Concert is at 6:30 p.m. Both concerts will include various Holiday songs focusing on the six major holidays in December. These include Christmas (both secular and sacred), Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Las Posadas, Santa Lucia and New Year. Some will be old favorites, while others will be new to your ears.
The K-2 Program has each class singing several songs with the entire school closing with Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and We Wish You a Merry Christmas. The Kindergarten will be starting the program with Must Be Santa. They will then sing Hanukkah is Here. They will follow that with a Kwanzaa song called Ifetayo. Their last piece will be a piece called Little Snowflake. The first graders will then take the stage with It’s so Nice on the Ice. Then they will sing a Hebrew song called S’vivon Sov about the dreidel and a simplified version of the Hora. They will follow with Here We Come A-Wassailing from England to wish everyone a Happy New Year. Then they will sing the Las Posadas song La Colación (The Christmas Candies). They will close with Jolly Old St. Nicholas. The second graders will take the stage dancing with scarves to an excerpt from The Nutcracker Overture. Then they will sing In the Window. They will then sing the Bing Crosby Hit Santa Claus is Coming to Town. Their third vocal piece is Esta si que es Nochebuena. They will end their part of the program with I Wish it Could be Christmas Every Day. The students have been working very hard to learn all of this music for the concert. We would love to see people come support our youth in their endeavors.
The 3-6th Grade Program will start with the 3rd Graders singing The Eight Days of Hanukkah! They will then sing Go Tell it on the Mountain with a capella singing for the accompaniment. They will follow that with Ujamaa. Their last piece will be Jingle, Jingle, Jingle from the movie Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer. The fourth graders will ring in the season with a song about the different candles of different holidays called December Nights, December Lights. They will sing Nia a Kwanzaa song. Then the class will sing Once Upon a Christmas Time with Jolly Old St. Nicholas. The boys get to sing the familiar partner song while the girls sing the new piece. They will close with singing one verse of Joy to the World while using sign language. The fifth grade will take the stage with the song The Season of Hope. They will then sing a Swedish version of the Italian Folk Song Sankta Lucia first in Swedish and then in English. They will move to the old English Carol The Holly and the Ivy. Their next piece is Ujima. They will rock off the stage with Jingle Bell Rock. The sixth graders will finish up the concert with a musical by John Jacobson and John Higgins called Elflandia. This musical takes place in the North Pole where Santa’s elves tirelessly work to make toys for humans, whom they do not think exist. Santa tells them stories, and they would like to meet one, but are they real? Then one comes to Elflandia with Santa, so they know that the stories are true and they all want an Elfie Selfie with every human they meet. The cast will sing the songs: Elflandia, Making Toys, Silly Humans, All a Part of the Story, and Elfie Selfie! We all hope you can come enjoy a relaxing night of music with a little laughter included.
