TitleAs we usher in the month of December, a countdown of events will lead the community into the celebration of Christmas.

The Baker Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture presents a number of fun activities to promote the hometown market and offer entertainment to the entire community.

Last week, Small Business Saturday kicked off the holiday season for their shopper’s convenience in support of the local economy.

The merry making will continue this weekend when the Fantasy Food Fair takes center stage on Saturday night Dec. 3. Local restaurateurs will be offering samples of savory appetizers starting at 7 p.m. Wine will flow throughout the evening as vendors from near and afar share samples of their finest. A festive display of beautifully decorated Christmas trees, The Festival of Trees, will be the backdrop at this venue held at the Thee Garage Showroom.

The Festival of Trees that benefits the Fallon Medical Complex Foundation, is a silent auction in which a number of local businesses and residents donate beautifully decorated Christmas trees, wreaths, centerpieces and Christmas baskets for public bidding. The items are located in Thee Garage Showroom for your review and are accepting bids until Wednesday evening, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. Winners will be announced during the Chili Feed.

A hometown tradition and the pinnacle of the holiday season is the Chamber sponsored Christmas Stroll. The evening event that takes place on Wednesday, Dec. 7 begins at 4 p.m., when Santa arrives at the Fire Station, on the west side of Baker. He will be listening to the children’s wish lists and posing for pictures with them from 4-7 p.m. Santa encourages each child to bring a can of food or a small donation for the local food bank. Pictures are free, courtesy of the Baker Fire Dept.

Plan to stroll over to the Thee Garage Showroom between 5-7 p.m. for a free will offering warm bowl of chili served with all the fixins, courtesy of the FMC Foundation.

This warm meal will help get you ready as you step outside to enjoy the annual Parade of Lights which will get underway at 7 p.m.

Bundle up the family, bring your blankets and thermos of hot cocoa as you enjoy the grand finale of this busy night of celebration.

All parade floats will line up in the north parking lot of the Fallon Medical Complex. The parade route will begin there from the west side of the parking lot, it will turn north (left) onto 3rd Street, crossing Montana Ave. and will continue onto Railroad Ave. then turn east (right) continuing onto Main Street. It will pass under the 4-way stoplight and move up Main Street turning right to the Post Office. At the Post Office the parade will turn north (right) back to Montana Avenue. It will then continue on going west, returning to the same parking lot from which it began.

All residents are encouraged to light up their homes with holiday cheer and festive ornaments as the annual Baker Chamber Christmas Light Decorating Contest takes place again this year. Homes will be judged after 5 p.m. on Dec. 12. First place will receive $50 in Baker Bucks, second place – $25 in Baker Bucks, and third place – $15 in Baker Bucks.

Don’t forget to sign up at local merchants to win Baker Bucks in the “Be a Winner! Shop in Baker!” drawing to take place each Monday, Dec. 5, 12, and 19. Register at participating Chamber of Commerce businesses through Dec. 17. No purchase necessary.
