Sheryl Allerdings Driscoll, formerly of Baker/Plevna, was awarded the Nurse of Excellence Award at Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital in St. Louis park (suburb of Minneapolis) May 13, 2016. Sheryl is the daughter of Milbert and Betty Allerdings and niece of Ray and Bonnie Allerdings, Myron and Charlotte Allerdings and Jerry and Bev Schell and granddaughter of the late Frances Mae Bertsch and Alvina F. Allerdings. Nurse of Excellence is awarded annually to a nurse that promotes the professional role of the nurse including capability, accountability, and is responsible for one’s own practice. The nurse is viewed as knowledgeable and is a strong patient and family advocate with exceptional clinical and critical thinking skills. The nurse works efficiently with all members of the healthcare team in a professional, considerate, effective and constructive manner. The nurse is considered by peers to be a role model and is consistently able to prioritize and adapt to the demands of any situation. The nurse shows kindness and compassion to all persons in any situation. The nurse shows kindness and compassion to all persons regardless of their actions in their time of need and also provides care effectively across cultural boundaries.
Nominations are received by peers/leaders and are blindly reviewed by a professional nursing committee. Once the committee selects a nurse, the nurse’s name is revealed. Sheryl is one of 2000+ nurses employed with the Park Nicollet organization which includes the hospital, clinics and urgent cares. Sheryl was chosen and honored for the 2016 Nurse of Excellence Award.
Sheryl graduated from Plevna in 1989. She attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks and graduated in December 1993 with a bachelor of science degree in nursing (BSN). She worked for 13 years at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks in ICU, Telemetry (cardiac), and ER. She has worked in the ER at Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital for the past ten years. She is very involved within the hospital and is a part of the Nurse Lead Initiative Team (NLIT), the Nursing Quality Safety and Informatics Team (NQSI), the Unit Based Quality Team (UBQT), and is an active Clinical Nurse Mentor (CRM) and Charge Nurse within the ER.
