“Mom” Laura’s Kringles

5 1/4 C. flour

1/2 tsp. salt

2/3 C. margarine or Crisco

2 C. buttermilk

1 tsp. vanilla or lemon

2 tsp. baking powder

2 C. sugar

2 egg yolks

2 tsp. soda

   Cream sugar and shortening, mix in the egg yolks and flavorings. Combine the dry ingredients together. Add to creamed mixture. Mix in separate bowl, 2 C. buttermilk with 2 tsp. soda, then immediately add to batter. Mix well and roll out like a pie crust, about 1/4 inch thick. Cut like a pizza, then roll each slice into a croissant shape. Bake at 450 degrees for approximately four minutes or until golden brown.

   * Kringles is a sweet tasting bread which can be served with any meal.
