Joyce Barbara (Bruce) Hurlbert, 80, of Helena passed away Dec. 7, 2015.
Joyce was the first of three children born to the late Maynard and Martha Bruce, Sept. 14, 1935, in Baker and was married to the late Clifford Hurlbert. She resided in Baker until her husband’s death in 2011 when she moved to Helena to be close to her two sons whom she leaves behind – Dale and Nena (Perkins) and Karl and Kimberlee (Davis); two grandsons, Karl and Geoffrey, and two granddaughters, Erika and Kiley. She also leaves behind her brother, Gary, of Baker.
She made a career doing what she loved, whether it was at the Baker Hotel, the Loft, Talk of the Town, or Tavern, if you had eaten in any of these places in the last 30 plus years, there is a good chance you had one of her meals. Throughout her life she enjoyed living on the farm, she loved tending a garden, and caring for the animals. She especially enjoyed raising chickens and selling eggs. After retiring in 2011, she lived a quiet life in Helena. She enjoyed spending time with her family, caring for her plants (some of which were started by her mother), reading magazines, watching old western movies and rodeos. Early this year she made the trip to Hawaii with Dale and his family which she thoroughly enjoyed and talked about often.
In the spring of 2016, a burial and graveside service will be held in Helena.
