Baker Spartans Conference Champs

   The Baker Spartans hosted the Colstrip Colts Oct. 23 for Senior-Parent Night in hopes of keeping their undefeated season alive.

   The first quarter started slowfor the Spartans as the Colts scored a touchdown with the two point conversion to gain an 8-0 lead.

   As the second quarter began, Colstrip’s momentum didn’t stop as they added two more touchdowns to make it a 22-0 lead over the Spartans with four minutes remaining in the half. The Spartans got their first touchdown of the game with time winding down. Gaining speed with the offense, Luke Gonsioroski passed to Austin Braun for a 15 yard touchdown. The two point conversion pass to Jordan Baxter made the score 22-8 going into halftime.

   Starting the second half, the Spartans came out energized and attacked Colstrip by getting the ball back. Baker began to drive down the field with their dangerous offense. Inside the 20 yard line in Colstrip territory, the Spartans were in position to score. Colstrip stood strong and turned the Spartans over, taking all momentum back into their

hands. A couple of plays later, the Colts completed a 56 yard pass, getting down to the Spartan three yard line. They then ran in for the touchdown on the next play making it a Colstrip 30-8 lead.

   The fourth quarter was filled with a lot of defense. On a fourth down in Colstrip territory, Luke Gonsioroski connected with Joe Fisher for a 17 yard touchdown pass. The two point conversion pass to Jordan Baxter made the score 30-16 ending the game.

   Offensively: Team rushing was 28-116 yards. Luke Gonsioroski had 20-105 yards, Joe Fisher 7-11 yards. Passing: Luke Gonsioroski was 11-39 109 yards; receiving: Jordan Baxter 5-30 yards, Joe Fisher 2-20 yards, Austin Braun 2-17 yards.

   Defensively: Andrew Craft 13 tackles, Matt Packer 14 tackles, Ben Fujimori 14 tackles.

   Even though the Spartans lost to Colstrip, they are still number one in the 3B Conference with the conference championship under their belt. The Spartans will host the Glasgow Scotties Saturday, Oct. 31, at 1 p.m. for the first round playoff game.
