Spartan winning streak continues

  The Baker Spartans traveled to Forsyth to play the Dogies Oct. 2 and came out on top of the battle.

Baker struck early in the first quarter with a 60 yard scramble from Luke Gonsioroski. The two point conversion was good from Joe Fisher to put the Spartans up 8-0. The Dogies didn’t back down from the fight. Driving down the field, the Dogies scored on a three yard touchdown run to put them on the board 8-6. Later in the quarter, the Spartans struck back with a 19 yard touchdown pass from Gonsioroski to Joe Fisher. The two point conversion was good from Luke Gonsioroski on a run up the middle to make the score 16-6.

   Throughout the second and third quarters, defense was thriving for both teams.

   On the first play of the fourth quarter, Luke Gonsioroski broke loose and found himself with a 78 yard rushing touchdown to extend the lead 22-6. Firing back, Forsyth threw a 45 yard touchdown pass, scratching back at the Spartan lead. From there on out, it was a battle of the offenses. Luke Gonsioroski threw a 19 yard touchdown to Austin Braun and Kadon Gentilini tacked on the two point conversion to make the score 30-14. The Dogies came right back on the following kickoff and returned it 63 yards for a touchdown, making the score 30-22. Following the touchdown, Forsyth recovered an onside kick and began  to drive down the field. They were forced to settle for a field goal to make it a five point game. The Spartans took over and began to drive with time winding down on the clock. With 2:00 remaining, Luke Gonsioroski ran for a nine yard touchdown and converted on the two point conversion with a pass to Jordan Baxter to make the score 38-25. On a last chance drive, Forsyth threw a game sealing interception to Kadon Gentilini.

   Offensively, Luke Gonsioroski rushed 23/296 yards, Joe Fisher rushed 15/56 yards, and team rushing was 38/352 yards. Luke Gonsioroski passed 9-17/113 yards and two touchdowns. Austin Braun was 5/76 yards receiving with a TD. Kadon Gentilini was 2/15 yards.

   Defensively, Andrew Craft had 14 tackles, Matt Packer 13, Kadon Gentilini 12, Ben Fujimori 12; Kadon Gentilini 2 interceptions; Luke Gonsioroski 1 interception; Nic Bohle 1 fumble recovery.

  The Spartans will host the Poplar Indians Friday, Oct. 9.
