With the first offensive play of the game, the Indians threw an interception to Joe Fisher. The Spartans took over and scored on a one yard run by Joe Fisher to put the Spartans up 6-0. The Indians got the ball back and on third down threw another interception – this one to Andrew Craft. The Baker offense took over and Luke Gonsioroski whipped the ball out to Jordan Baxter for a 13 yard touchdown pass. The extra point was good from Austin Braun, making the score 13-0. Lodge Grass received the ball and started to drive down the field. The Spartan defense stood strong and Lodge Grass turned it over once again. Luke Gonsioroski and the Spartans took over and began to drive down the field into Lodge Grass territory. On a first and ten, Luke Gonsioroski dropped back looking for an open receiver, but couldn’t find one so he started to roll out to his right and launched the football 31 yards to the end zone connecting with Jordan Baxter for the touchdown. Austin Braun kicked the extra point to make the score 20-0 in Spartan favor. Lodge Grass could not overcome the Spartan defense. On the next offensive possession, Gonsioroski connected with Nicholas Bohle for a 28 yard touchdown pass, to make the score 26-0.
Starting the second quarter, Austin Braun ran 25 yards on a quarterback keeper for the touchdown. Defense continued to dominate for the Spartans. Shortly before halftime, Dalton Herbst exploded with an 87 yard touchdown run to put the Spartans up 38-0 at half.
Halfway into the third quarter, Dillon Cunningham broke out for a 22 yard touchdown run. From then on the Spartans held the Indians scoreless, 44-0, to get the second conference win.
Offensively, the Spartans had 28 runs for 208 yards. Dalton Herbst 1-87 yards, Austin Braun 2-37 yards, Dillon Cunningham 4-37 yards, Keegan Kary 10-32 yards. Passing – Luke Gonsioroski was 4-6 for 83 yards and 3 TDs. Receiving – Jordan Baxter had 2 catches for 44 yards and 2 TDs. Nicholas Bohle had one catch for 28 yards and a TD; and Austin Braun had one catch for 11 yards.
Defense: Isaac Rost led the team in tackles with 7, Nic Mahon had 6, Joe Fisher, Andrew Craft, Jacob Ayers and Dalton Herbst each had one interception. Casey Wyrwas and Isaac Rost both had one fumble recovery.
The Baker Spartans will travel to Forsyth to take on the Dogies Friday, Oct. 2, at 7 p.m.
