James Edwin Samsel “Jim”, 68, of Billings passed away Jan. 6, 2015 at his home. He was born Sept. 27, 1946 in Denver, Colo., to John Ethan “Jack” and Barcia Jane (Williams) Samsel. He grew up in Nebraska and graduated from Ogallala High School. He attended both Nebraska University and Colorado State University. He worked in the family business and later he obtained his nursing degree from Northern Montana College. He worked at the Trinity Hospital in Wolf Point for 17 years until his retirement in 2011, at which time he moved to Billings. He was active in Jaycees both at the local and national level and where he made a lot of close friends. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Baker. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and watching sports.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his infant sister, Susan Jane.
He is survived by his brother, Steven L. (Kathi) Samsel of Canon City, Colo.; niece Nikki (Jeff) Peppers of Rock Springs, Wyo.; and nephew Troy (Kristy) Samsel of Cheyenne, Wyo. His special friends who loved and adopted Jim into their families and shared so many happy times also survive him are Lew Von Kleeck, Junior and Alex Collie, Michael Uphues, DO, Tammy Zeglis, Ceeley and Tyrel Flammang, Cienna, Chaun, and J. Croix Nielsen and Michael T. Uphues.
A funeral service at Smith Downtown Chapel in Billings was held Jan. 13, 2015. Private interment was in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Baker Jan. 15, 2015.
