Before Christmas break, Mrs. Benner’s third grade class took a trip to the Community Cupboard in Baker.

They donated a turkey and enough supplies for a meal to feed a family for Christmas. They learned that the shelves had been fairly empty, but around this time of year several donations come in and currently the Community Cupboard had a sufficient amount of food.
Tiffany Davis works at the Community Cupboard and told them that people who are in need of food can visit once a month to select items and take them home. She explained that it is mostly by word of mouth that she learns which items are needed by people using this resource. The students were given a tour of the Community Cupboard and learned that paper products and liquids such as shampoo, conditioner, and laundry detergent are items that are in low supply there.
After visiting the Community Cupboard and learning about how it provides for citizens in the community, the third grade students were thankful for their own supplies and glad they were able to help a family have a nourishing meal at Christmas.
