The 2014 Business Professionals of America National Leadership Conference was held in Indianapolis, IN, April 30- May 4. The theme for the conference was “Accelerate Your Future”. Nicole Allerdings qualified to compete nationally in Fundamental Desktop Publishing by placing third at State BPA in March. Over 5,000 members and advisors from 23 states attended the conference.

The conference began with the opening general session Apr. 30. The flag of each of the 23 states with members in BPA was carried across the state in the traditional flag ceremony. The keynote speaker was Jason Hewlett. Mr. Hewlett has performed for over 2,000 corporate events during his 13 year career. As a speaker and entertainer for youth and educators, he has shared his positive and amusing messages with over 250,000 children.

The morning of May 1, BPA members had the opportunity to participate in a walk for Special Olympics around the scenic White River State Park. Then they visited the Indianapolis Zoo, which has the world’s only underwater dolphin viewing dome. The students could also attend a private dolphin show and touch a shark.

May 2, Nicole competed in her event. She had 90 minutes to use a computer to create a logo and tagline, beach towel design, iPhone case design, and admission ticket design for a theoretical new water and amusement park.

Several BPA members made the trip to Kings Island, Ohio to spend the day at the amusement park. Although it was not part of the BPA tours and events planned, several members and advisors went to the Bankers Life Fieldhouse to watch the Indiana Pacers vs. The Atlanta Hawks in game seven of the first round play-offs.

The conference came to a close May 3 with the awards session. The BPA National Leadership Conference provided several opportunities for BPA members to see and learn new things in order to “accelerate their futures”.
