Plevna High School sophomore Nicole Allerdings is the winner of the 2014 Rural Electric Cooperatives Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. Nicole is the daughter of Clinton and Jolinda Allerdings.
Montana’s local rural electric cooperatives have been sending students to Washington, D.C. for more than 20 years. Southeast Electric Cooperative, which is a member of Montana’s Electric Cooperatives’ Association (MECA), sponsors one student each year for this trip. The student and/or parent or guardian must be a member of Southeast Electric Cooperative. As part of the application, Nicole wrote an essay describing how electric cooperatives operate based on the seven cooperatives principles. She also told which of the seven principles she thought was most important and why.
Nicole will be joining over 20 Youth Tour winners from across the state and will travel to Washington, D.C. in June 2014. The Montana winners will join other winners from across the country to gain an understanding of our nation’s history and the freedoms we enjoy. The students will also visit the Lincoln Memorial, World War II Memorial, Capitol Building, national landmarks, and museums.
