Spartan football team ends season

The Baker Spartans hosted the defending Class B State Champions, Missoula Loyola, for the Class B State Championship Nov. 23, and lost 30-13 in a hard fought battle to place second in the state.

The Baker Spartans hosted the defending Class B State Champions, Missoula Loyola, for the Class B State Championship Nov. 23, and lost 30-13 in a hard fought battle to place second in the state.

Baker started the first half with a touchdown by Seth Barkley and a successful PAT kick by Mason Melby. Loyola came back to tie the game, going into halftime the score being 7-7.

The second half is when Loyola started to peak. After halftime, Loyola scored two touchdowns and Baker didn’t score any. The fourth quarter came and Missoula Loyola scored another touchdown and successfully kicked a field goal. Melby scored the last touchdown of Baker’s season and his high school career, ending the game with a score fo 30-13.

Offensively, Jordan Walker had 8 carries for 33 rushing yards, Melby had 75 rushing yards for 12 carries, Jonathan Wiseman had 11 carries for 94 yards, and Barkley had 82 yards for 12 carries. As a team, the Spartans had 44 rushes for 284 yards. Walker was two for nine in passing with a total of 23 yards. Wiseman had five yards for one reception, and Barkley had 18 yards for one reception.

Defensively, Jeff fisher had 11 tackles, Melby and Chance Ehret 9 tackles each, Cody Beyers 8 tackles, Travis Koenig and Jonathan Wiseman 5 tackles each, Jordan Walker, Dallas Arnell and Dustin Irgens – 4 tackles each, Barkley 3 tackles, Joe Fisher 2 tackles. Beyers also had a quarterback sack along with Ehret, Irgens, and Jeff Fisher.
