Members of the Baker Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture were invited to attend an informal meeting with state of Montana Chamber of Commerce representatives Nov. 25 in Baker. The meeting was part of the 2013 Fall Montana Business Agenda “Giving Thanks” Tour.

Webb Brown, MT Chamber President/CEO, and Stayce Dorrington, MT Chamber Administrative/Legislative Assistant were the representatives assigned to the eastern Montana tour. Brown gave synopsis of the MT Chamber’s ongoing government affairs work including legislative advocacy on business equipment tax reductions and affordable workman’s compensation. He also covered information on insurance programs and encouraged discussion on local business issues and concerns. Brown said, “We’re here to give thanks and to see what’s going on in business and what the local economy is like.”

Dorrington highlighted the philanthropic work of the MT Chamber Foundation, which includes the annual Governor’s Cup golf tournament in Kalispell and the MT High School Business Challenge.

Members discussed some of the challenges facing the local and surrounding communities and businesses with the impact of the oil industry including employee shortage, housing, and infrastructure. Brown encouraged local members to continue planning, and to stay in contact with the MT Chamber for the continued efforts in promoting business in Montana
