The Baker Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture is sponsoring a celebration of the hometown marketplace throughout the holiday season starting on “Black Friday”. Local stores will be open until 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, for extended hours of Christmas shopping.

Saturday, Nov. 30, customers are encouraged to shop locally for gifts during “Small Business Saturday” in support of the local businesses and economy.

The community can join local businesses Wednesday, Dec. 4, to start the “Countdown to Christmas”. Children can have their picture taken with Santa at the new Baker Fire Station from 4-6 p.m. Families are encouraged to provide a can of food or a small donation to the Food Bank for the pictures taken, courtesy of the  Baker Fire Department.

The Baker Lions Club will host a free will donation Chili Feed at Thee Garage from 4-7 p.m. with chili, corn bread, ice cream, and pop being served. Stores will be open until 7 p.m. with the annual Parade of Lights, sponsored by the Fallon County Recreation Department, to follow at 7:30 p.m.

The parade route will start from the north Fallon Medical Complex parking lot, going north on Third Street, crossing Montana Avenue and turning right (east) on Railroad Avenue. The parade will continue on Railroad Avenue, turning right at the Corner Bar to continue on Main Street, crossing the four-way and turning right towards the Post Office. At the Post Office, the parade will turn right (north) on First Street, then will turn left (west) on Montana Avenue, returning to FMC.

Residents can decorate their homes to participate in the annual “Baker Chamber Christmas Light Decorating Contest”. Homes will be judged after 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9. First place will receive $50 in Baker Bucks, second place – $25 in Baker Bucks, third place – $15 in Baker Bucks.

Community members will be encouraged to continue to shop locally with the chance to win Baker Bucks by registering at participating Chamber businesses during the “Be a Winner! Shop in Baker!” weekly drawings. A drawing will be held every Monday – December 2, 9 and 16, for participants 18 or older.

Most stores will close at 3 p.m. Christmas Eve, Tuesday, Dec. 24, and on New Years Eve, Dec. 31, to end the holiday season and welcome the 2014 new year.
