This year the Plevna Student Council and Business Professionals of America (BPA) partnered with Samaritan’s Purse in a service project entitled Operation Christmas Child (OCC). The goal of OCC is to provide millions of boys and girls in over 130 countries with simple gifts. These gifts are given to children who are living in poverty-stricken countries, are suffering from disease or famine, or who have lost everything as a result of natural disasters.

Since 1993, over 103 million shoebox gifts have been sent through OCC. Student Council and BPA vice president Nicole Allerdings visited each classroom and showed the students how to fill a shoebox with small gifts such as school supplies, toys, hygiene items, hard candy, T-shirts, and various other gifts. Each student was encouraged to fill their own shoebox for a boy or girl in need.

Plevna students and teachers prepared a total of 33 boxes to be sent around the world this Christmas. The National Collection Week for OCC shoeboxes is Nov. 18-25.
