Baker football team takes down Columbus

Baker hosted the Columbus Cougars for the first round playoffs Nov. 2. The Spartans remained undefeated after dominating the scoreboard against the Cougars with a score of 42-12.

Mason Melby scored the only touchdown during the first quarter with an eight yard run. During the second quarter, Seth Barkley ran it in two yards and the PAT kick by Melby was good. Jonathan Wiseman ran it in a yard for a touchdown with Melby making a two point conversion. By halftime, the score was 21-0.

The third quarter was the first time Columbus scored and the only time Baker didn’t. The fourth quarter was Baker’s time to shine. Luke Gonsioroski had a six yard pass from Jordan Walker for the touchdown. Jonathan Wiseman had a seven yard run score and he also ran in for the PAT. Barkley had a 33 yard run to score again and he also kicked the PAT.

Offensively, Melby had 177 rushing yards for 21 carries; Barkley – 122 yards for 11 carries; Wiseman – 90 yards for 17 carries. As a team, the Spartans had 391 rushing yards for 60 carries. The Spartans were three for seven with 48 passing yards.

Defensively, Travis Koenig led with 13 tackles and Melby had 7 tackles. Jordan Walker and Joe Fisher each had one interception; Wiseman and Koenig each had one fumble recovery; Chance Ehret had one and one-half sacks, Clint Lesh, Jeff Fisher, and Seth Barkley each had one sack.
