Donna Lorraine Kono, age 70, of Rhame, N.D., passed away Dec. 8, 2013 in Dickinson, N.D. Memorial services were held Dec. 13, 2013 at the Bowman Lutheran Church in Bowman, N.D. with Rev. Charles Swanson officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in the Wibaux Cemetery in Wibaux. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Wibaux was entrusted with the arrangements.

Donna was born Oct. 26, 1943 in Dunn County, N.D., one of ten children born to Robert Marty, Jr. and Gertrude (Miller) Marty. She spent her childhood and attended school in Killdeer, N.D. and graduated from Killdeer High School with the class of 1961.

June 8, 1962, she was married to David Kono in Killdeer. Together they moved to the Kono family ranch west of Grassy Butte, N.D., where David was born and raised. It was there their three children were born, Lonnie, TJ and Rob. In August of 1978, the family moved to a ranch north of Wibaux.

Donna could not sit still; she always had to be doing something. She helped on the ranch when she was needed, and she always raised a large garden. She was also active as a leader in 4-H when her children were involved both in Grassy Butte and Wibaux.

In March of 1985, Donna and David moved to Rhame, N.D. where she has since resided. In Rhame, Donna worked several years at the Bowman hospital and for many years at the Bowman Super 8 Motel.

Donna was a member of the Rhame Lutheran Church. She enjoyed embroidery and quilting, especially at church. Donna made many quilts for charity as well as family and friends. She also sold them at the museum in Grassy Butte. Donna especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-nieces and nephews. Whenever possible, Donna attended the grandkids’ sporting events: rodeo, football, basketball and volleyball games. She always kept busy and never missed a chance to play cards.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David, on Aug. 26, 2010; her parents, Gertrude in August of 2003 and Bob in November of 1999; and her youngest brother, Curt, in July of 1989.

Donna is survived by a daughter, Lonnie (Kim) Bacon of Wibaux and their children Kala Bacon (Josh Wirtzfeld), Tel Bacon and Sara Bacon; son, TJ Kono, of Buffalo, Okla., and his daughter Jessica Kono and son Rob (Dana) Kono of Plevna and their sons and daughters-in-law, Lance (Katlyn) Kono and Levi (Regan) Kono; great-granddaughters, Bailee Mae and Keira Bryn Wirtzfeld and a great-grandson on the way; three sisters and their husbands, Elaine (Dick) Semingson of South Heart, S.D., Charlene (Richard) Shoenbeck of Belfield, N.D., and Peggy (Randy) Hlebechuk of Rhame, N.D.
