Roger went to serve his country in the Army from 1966 – 1967 on the DMZ in Korea.

On May 25, 1968 he married his wife, Muriel Erickson, of 44 years. They made their home on the family farm where they raised their two sons, Chad and Darrell. Besides farming and ranching Roger worked several jobs to provide for this family. He worked at Melvin Miller’s Construction and house moving and helped with the farming. He worked for Bowman County as a maintainer operator and helped build the fertilizer shed for the Rhame Elevator and for Coutts Trucking and Buses. On July, 17, 2005 Roger needed dialysis so they moved to Rapid City, SD and found their new home in a small mobile court in the middle of the Black Hills. He fought a great battle of many illnesses in his life – Diabetes, Heart, Kidney transplant in 2007, leg amputation in 2012. In March of 2013 they wanted to amputate the other leg and he said, “Enough, Not going to happen”. That is when they purchased a larger camper and headed to Bowman, ND for him to get ready to meet his family waiting for him in Heaven. His wish was to spend his last days around family and friends.

Roger loved to fish, hunt and visit with his friends that gathered in his shop on Sunday afternoons while he worked on Chevy motors, but most of all, Roger enjoyed spending time with his family. Roger was known for not saying much, but when he did everyone listened.
